chenhaka instruments



Chenhaka african musical instruments was fornded by Taurai Moyo in 2011,
CHENHAKA  is a shona stem word for CHENGETAI NHAKA, name found within the Bantu speaking people of Zimbabwe among the Manyika people of Mutare in Manicaland province. These words means Preserve Our Heritage . The organization aims to promote ,preserve and develop arts and cultural initiatives in and around our community and also amongst schools pupils by venturing in creative arts such as drama, dance , music and manufacturing of traditional musical  instruments and also promoting a girl child participation in all activities. This non-profit organization operates on full time bases.The organization 

has participated in a number of festivals around Zimbabwe and regionally offering its multi-lingual repertoire art forms such as traditional dance, theatre, eccentric and contemporary musical showcasing and workshops.

ACTIVITIES-Manufacturing  and repairing of Zimbabwe traditional instruments and costumes i.e. African drums, all types of mbira, marimba, hosho and leg shakers.

-showcasing traditional dance and music as well as workshops in traditional musical instruments playing.

-Traditional dance, music, games and theatre weekend classes for primary schools children.

-classes for secondary school pupils in literature in arts.
